Nutriënten verwijdering met BioNIQ
In horticulture, BioNIQ removes nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphate from nutrient-rich wastewater. The treated water can then be safely discharged into surface water, helping growers meet the zero-discharge requirements coming into effect in 2027.
Developed in 2020 in collaboration with Water IQ International, BioNIQ has since proven its value in the Belgian horticultural sector. The first system was installed at Belgian Planten Kwekerij (BPK), where it has been operating successfully ever since. Day in, day out, BioNIQ shows that wastewater can be treated reliably and efficiently—without complex operation.

Nitrogen removal is achieved through ultra-fast biological denitrification using immobilised bacteria. The system’s high cell density enables exceptionally fast conversion rates while maintaining a compact footprint.
P
Phosphate removal is based on controlled flocculation using PFM (Phosphorus Flocculant Mix), which effectively captures and binds phosphate ions.
