BioNIQ for intake and basin water treatment
Water availability is becoming increasingly important. But the challenge is not just about having enough water—it’s also about ensuring its quality.
Surface water as an additional water source
Surface water can be a valuable additional water source, but its quality is far from constant. The RIVM has identified a growing range of chemical substances in Dutch surface waters, including residues of crop protection products, pharmaceuticals and persistent industrial micropollutants. You often can’t see these substances. But they’re there. And depending on how you plan to use the water, they may be the last thing you want in it.
Basin water treatment
Stored rainwater in a basin isn’t automatically free from contaminants either. During collection and storage, substances from the air, greenhouse roof and surrounding environment can enter the water. These may include fertilisers, residues from greenhouse coatings and cleaning agents, chalk-water residues, crop protection products and organic matter. If you want to rely on basin water, you need to look beyond what you can see.

BioNIQ: modular water treatment
With BioNIQ, you decide how far to take your water treatment. The BioNIQ system can be configured using multiple modules to meet your specific needs. Start with the Clarity Module to remove turbidity and colloidal particles. Add the NP Module to target nutrients and organic matter. And if persistent or hard-to-remove contaminants are present, the Catalytic Module can be added as the final treatment step.

Treating greenhouse coating wash water with BioNIQ technology
In collaboration with Stichting Kennis in je Kas (KijK) Glastuinbouw Waterproof and Lumiforte, we successfully developed a treatment process for greenhouse coating wash water containing cleaning agent residues, using BioNIQ technology.
The study demonstrated the proof of principle and identified which modules are needed to treat the wash water effectively. Curious about the results?
